Mineral content and pyrolysis of selected plant materials ...

2021-5-29  Recent studies of pyrolysis of plant materials indicate that the rate of thermal degredation and the amount of volatile materials formed are directly related to the silica-free ash content (SFA) of the material. However, plants with SFA above 12 percent that were tested did not fit these relationships. Evidence was found that only certain constituents of SFA are effective in

Determination of Mineral Elements in Plant Tissues Using ...

2010-11-20  The mineral content of plant samples is usually deter-mined by analyzing the liquid phase after dry ashing orwet ashing ground dried plant materials. The proceduresand the problems of fume disposal and special laboratoryequipment required for the methods have been discussed(Johnson and Ulrich, 1959). Nicholas (1951) surveyed theliterature on extraction methods for tissue analysis in de-termining the nutrient status of various crops. Many re-ports indicate good correlations between nutrients ex-tracted and fertilizer applications, but only a few comparethe extracted values to the total content. Nicholas(1948a,b) extracted plant tissue with acetate, citrate, malonate, and succinate buffers (pH 4.8). The concentra-tions determined by extraction were correlated with thetotal concentrations in the tissue, but the two sets ofvalues were not directly compared. Greweling (1962) andBaker and Greweling (1967) analyzed the EDTA extractsfrom a variety of plant
